Crews made quick work in restoring electric power following Tuesday storms

Strong thunderstorms that knocked down power lines and damaged some buildings Tuesday evening left more than 6,700 electric customers without power as of Wednesday morning.

The affected areas were from Davis in the south to Oklahoma City and up to Jay in the northeast.

By the afternoon, the outages were down to more than 500 customers and most of them were reported by the Oklahoma Association of Electric Cooperatives. The largest number of outages was in Delaware County where Northeast Oklahoma electric Cooperative had 342 customers without power at mid-afternoon.

Meteorologists at News 9 in Oklahoma City attributed damage around Jones and Harrah due to a microburst. The storm briefly trapped a Lincoln County family when their family camper was tossed up against their mobil home.

“I noticed the wind got up and opened the door, looked out. Shut the door and the next thing I know everything is just crashing in,” said Macye Goudeau in an interview with News 9.

Wellston was also hit by a microburst and power lines were downed by the storm.

OGE crews spent the night and day restoring power. At mid-day, the utility still had outages near Davis, Ratliff City, Elmore City, Norman, Moore, Oklahoma City, Del City, Nicoma Park and Wellston.
