U.S. consumer confidence rebounded this week and on Wednesday, crude oil prices shot up nearly 3%. The gain was also seen after there was a larger-than-expected draw in U.S. crude stockpiles.
West Texas Intermediate crude for February delivery went up $2.06 per barrel or 2.90% to reach $78.29 on the New York Mercantile Exchange.
Global benchmark Brent crude for February delivery gained 2.90% or $2.21 a barrel and settled at $82.20 on ICE Futures Europe.
January natural gas was unchanged at $5.33 per 1,000 cubic feet.
The increased crude oil prices resulted in gains for most Oklahoma energy stocks including a 6% increase for Empire Petroleum and 5% growth for Gulfport Energy, Laredo Petroleum and Ovintiv.
