Oil royalties fight undecided in North Dakota

Trump administration cuts royalty payments for oil companies - POLITICO

A North Dakota panel led by Gov. Doug Burgum took no action last week on settlement offers for some of the energy companies that owe millions of dollars in unpaid oil and gas royalties in the state.

As of last year, Oklahoma City-based Continental Resources Inc. was one of them. Considered a top producing firm in North Dakota, the company had been in a 3-year legal battle with the state Land Commission in a deduction dispute.

Continental was one of at least a dozen energy firms behind on their bills owed to the the state for public school funding reported the Associated Press.

The North Dakota Petroleum Council says Continental and the others contend they have been paying correct amounts of royalties and the state is unfairly demanding too much from them.
