Just as Oklahoma pushed back and managed to stop a major transmission line across the northern part of the state earlier this year, a proposed 550 mile transmission line in eastern Colorado is facing the same kind of opposition.
Residents are fighting the Xcel Energy project and expressed their opposition in Elbert County where the utility unveiled details of the project. The County Planning Board also recommended denial of Xcel’s application to the Board of County Commissioners.
Eminent domain was an issue in opposing the transmission project in Oklahoma and in Colorado, Excel has started eminent domain initiatives. The company has already obtained nearly 50% of the land for the project.
