Some of the leaders of some states in the northeastern part of the nation are so angry with the operation of their 13-state grid, known as PJM, they have sued the little-known nonprofit organization.
What’s behind the lawsuits and the growing resentment? Mostly soaring utility bills. They blame PJM for making poor decisions resulting in high electric bills and contend the grid was too slow in adding renewable enery projects to help lower the cost of electricity.
The lawsuits also contend PJM has paid power plants too much to supply electricity to their states. The grid, which manages power for 65 million residents is also the largest in the U.S. Hit with the lawsuits, PJM faces calls to change their methods of operation as some states are even going so far as to threaten to withdraw from the grid.
