When it comes to the election of Oklahoma Corporation Commissioners or the legislators who propose the bills affecting utilities, roads and other energy-related matters, it’s campaign donations and money that helps put them in office.
But changes have been made about the rules and regulations controlling the contributions as well as what lobbyists spend wining and dining the lawmakers.
The Oklahoma Ethics Commission announced this week some of the changes.
Summary of Changes in 2025
- Increase in the anonymous contribution amount from $50 to $200
- New definition for foreign national, including political caucus committee as a type of political party committee, and includes clarification for independent expenditure definition to conform with FEC definition
- Added language to require certification by treasurers and/or deputy treasurers regarding any funding received by foreign nationals
- Removed requirement of attendance at event by lobbyist, liaison, or lobbyist principal associated with a permissible gift per Ethics Rules 5.6.
- Increased meal limits for lobbyist or Legislative Liaisons from $500 to $750
- Modified blackout period to conclude after primary election if such election determines outcome.
- Integration of Senate Bill 890 (2025) which moves all Political Subdivision reporting and compliance requirements to the Ethics Commission starting November 1, 2025.
