A proposed University of Arkansas solar project is going to receive its federal funds after the Trump administration had frozen the millions…..maybe.
Federal Judge Tanya S. Chutkan issued an order for the government to release up to $625million in climate grants that were frozen since the middle of February, reported Arkansas Business.
The funding would help finance the construction of a network of solarplants to power the entire University of Arkansas System. Proponents claim the 18 solar arrays totaling 66b megawatts of capacity would save the system more than $120 million in electricity over 25 years.
The funding was part of $20 billion in grants frozen by EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin. The grants were originally awarded t o climate change non-profits as the Biden administration was ending. But the Trump administration said it would appeal the judge’s decision in favor of eight non-profitrs that sued Citibank and the Trump administration. She ruled the EPA unlawfully endedthe Biden-Harris Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund created in 2022.
