Oil drilling in Oklahoma

Still strong in western Oklahoma—-the state’s oil and gas industry drilling efforts.

The latest Baker Hughes Rig Count showed Oklahoma gained a rig to reach a total of 43  in the past week, as OK Energy Today reported earlier. But a deeper dive into where the rigs are active showed the gain was in the Granite Wash play where there is a total of 17 rigs.

As the GW gained a rig, the Cana Woodford, the state’s most active oil and gas play, lost a rig, leaving it with a total of 20 rigs.

In other plays around the Anadarko Basin, the Ardmore Woodford remained at one rig and so did the Arkoma Woodford. The state’s lone play, the Mississippian continued for another week with no reported drilling activity, based on the Baker Hughes Rig Count.

The Permian Basin has the nation’s highest count at 242 rigs, the same number reported as a week earlier. The Haynesville in East Texas and Louisiana added a rig to reach 56. The Eagle Ford of South Texas was unchanged at 42 rigs.

The Williston of North Dakota and Montana saw no change in its count of 28 active rigs.

The Marcellus play remained at 25 rigs and the Utica stayed at 12. The D-J Niobrara in Colorado and southern Wyoming continued with 9 rigs.
