The outspoken Lieutenant Governor of Texas, Dan Patrick, has joined the list of those who think the top man at CenterPoint Energy should resign.
As Fuel Fix reports, Patrick told a weekend meeting of the Public Utility Commission of Texas it’s time for CenterPoint CEO Jason Wells to leave over the company’s failed response to Hurricane Beryl, a response that included calling in Oklahoma Gas and Electric crews to help with power restoration as more than 2 million Houston residents suffered for days without electricity.
“This is not the CenterPoint I know from the past,” said Patrick to the utility’s regulators.
“If the PUC allows CenterPoint to get away and try to PR their way through this, that will show the commission is not accountable,” Patrick said, reported Fuel Fix.
He went on to urge the commission to audit CenterPoint’s operations to make sure there is no overcharging. He also repeated his call that ratepayers should not pay for the company’s $800 million lease of large generators, many which were never used during or after the storm.
The Public Utility Commission is investigating CenterPoint’s massive failure and is to have a final report with proposed legislator by Dec. 1.
