While there was only a slight drop in the number of active oil and gas rigs across Oklahoma and the U.S., what about activity in the country’s shale plays?
Of course, the Permian Basin was the oil play with the biggest drilling activity—304 rigs but it was down two in the past week, based on the Baker Hughes rig report.
The Eagle Ford in South Texas continued with 48 rigs while the Haynesville count grew one to 34. The Marcellus also added one rig for a total of 25. The Williston count remained at 34 rigs.
The Ardmore Woodford count fell one, leaving only one active rig. The Arkoma Woodford added a rig for a total of 2. The Cana Woodford was unchanged at 18.
The DJ Basin count grew by one to 8 and the Granite Wash was unchanged at 4 rigs. The Mississippian still has no reported rig activity, at least based on the Baker Hughes information. The Utica play remained at 9 rigs.
