US rig numbers experience slight decline…so did Oklahoma

 

It wasn’t a major drop, but the nation’s number of oil and gas rigs active in the pursuit of new energy declined in the past week, according to the latest report from the Baker Hughes Co.

The number declned by 2 to 585 active oil and gas rigs while Oklahoma’s count slipped by one, leaving 40 active in the state’s oil and gas plays. Oklahoma’s count of 40 compares to 37 reported one year ago.

Across the U.S., the decline included 5 oil rigs, leaving 479 while there was a gain of 3 gas rigs to 102.  Still, the U.S. is 34 down from the 619 rigs reported a year ago and the fall included 18 oil rigs and 16 gas rigs. The number of offshore rigs slipped by one in the past week to 18.

Oklahoma’s count of 40 compared to Texas where the numbers grew by two to 279 rigs. New Mexico’s count fell by three to 101 and North Dakota, another of the oil-producing states, was unchanged at 33 rigs. Louisiana’s count dropped by one to 40 and Colorado remained at 11 rigs.

The Red Top Rig Report based in Wichita showed Kansas added 4 rigs to reach a total of 28. Ohio was unchanged at 9 rigs while Pennsylvania’s count grew one to 15. Utah was steady at 11 rigs and West Virginia remained at 10. Wyoming also saw no change with 17 active r igs.
