Turnpike Authority couldn’t get cooperation for new turnpike frontage roads

Because the Norman City Council voted against the Oklahoma Turnpike Authority’s controversial new toll road through the city and surrounding area, the Authority has responded by canceling plans for frontage roads on the project.

The decision applies to the 28-mile turnpike that will not only connect the towns of Newcastle, Blanchard and Tuttle to Interstate 35 but also carry motorists and traffic east to Interstate 40.

The Oklahoman revealed the Turnpike Authority’s decision and report it came after the authority attempted to work with the city of Norman regarding requests for frontage roads, trails and other amenities…..but it wasn’t successful.
