District Judge puts Oklahoma Ag Department on the hot seat

In a scathing ruling, a district judge in northeast Oklahoma accused the state Ag Department of being irresponsible in allowing poultry farms to be located in a sensitive watershed.

Delaware County District Court Judge Dave Crutchfield made the critical ruling in a lawsuit brought by the Indian Environmental Law Group of Tulsa and put state officials on the hot seat. The law group represented the Spring Creek Coalition consisting of landowners along some Ozark streams who filed suit and accused the Oklahoma Department of Agriculture, Food and Forestry of ignoring its duty to protect clean water from poultry pollution.

Oklahoma Watch reported the Judge also concluded the Ag Department had failed to offer due process protection to the landowners.
