The question at the start of a new week of trading will be whether crude oil prices can maintain the 4% gains they recorded on Friday. Oklahoma energy stocks also recorded moderate gains to finish the week’s trading.
Crude prices on Friday rebounded from a four-month low on Thursday, thanks to some extent to U.S. sanctions on several Russian oil shippers.
West Texas Intermediate crude rose $2.99 on Friday or 4.1% to finish at $75.89 on the New York Mercantile Exchange.
Global benchmark Brent crude also gained 4.1% on a $3.19 increase per barrel and settled at $80.61 on ICE Futures Europe.
While both had gains of more than 4%, they still ended the week 1% lower, which represented their fourth straight weekly drop. Analysts credit continued record high oil production and increasing U.S. crude inventories.
December natural gas fell 10 cents to $2.96 per 1,000 cubic feet.
Oklahoma energy stocks recorded moderate gains including a more than 5% boost for Matrix Service and 3% increases for Helmerich & Payne, Mammoth Energy and Ovintiv Inc.
Other energy stocks also recorded gains for the day, per the Texas Energy Report.
