US oil and gas rig count shows a gain while Oklahoma was unchanged

 

The number of active drilling rigs in the U.S. increased in the past week while Oklahoma’s count was unchanged.

Baker Hughes Co. released its rig count on Friday showing Oklahoma stayed at 37, same as a week earlier but far below the 65 rigs reported one year ago.

Nationally, the count increased by 3 to reach a total of 622 oil and gas rigs. The count included a gain of 4 oil rigs to reach a total of 501 while the number of gas drilling rigs fell one to 117, according to Baker Hughes Co.

The total U.S. count is 147 less than a year ago when there were 769 active oil and gas rigs. The decline included a drop of 107 oil rigs and 40 gas rigs.

Texas added four rigs to reach 301 while the count in New Mexico fell by two to 104. North Dakota was unchanged at 30 rigs while Louisiana’s total slipped by one to 42. Colorado saw no change in its total of 16 rigs but Kansas, according to the Red Top Rig Report, added 3 rigs to reach 40.

Ohio was unchanged at 10 rigs and Pennsylvania’s count grew by one to reach 21. West Virginia stayed at 8 rigs and Wyoming’s count increased by one to 20.

The Permian Basin saw an addition of 2 rigs to reach 311 while the Eagle Ford added one to hit 51 rigs. The Haysville count fell by two to 37 and the Marcellus total increased by one to 29.

The Ardmore Woodford was unchanged at 2 rigs while the Arkomma Woodford remained without any reported drilling activity, based on the Baker Hughes report. The Cana Woodford was unchanged at 16 rigs and the Barnett play still has no drilling activity.

The Granite Wash continued with its count of 5 rigs and the Mississippian stayed at only one reported rig. The Utica stayed at 10 rigs while the Williston count grew by one to 33.
