**  Large businesses in California will have to disclose a wide range of planet-warming emissions under a new law Gov. Gavin Newsom signed Saturday — the most sweeping mandate of its kind in the nation. The law requires more than 5,300 companies that operate in California and make more than $1 billion in annual revenues to report both their direct and indirect emissions.

** US sales of hybrids have more than doubled since 2020 and are heading toward a 35% increase this year, according to researcher GlobalData.

** A 2022 report by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) shows that 80% of the country’s retired or active coal plants are suitable to host advanced nuclear reactors.

** The Treasury Department on Friday announced new rules to access tax credits for electric vehicles allowing customers to apply a rebate at the dealership when purchasing a vehicle.

** A new deal between Tesla and Hilton will make electric vehicle charging far more accessible for visitors to the popular hotel chain. Some 2,000 Hilton locations in the United States, Canada, and Mexico will welcome Tesla’s Universal Wall Connector charging points, with 20,000 chargers delivered in total.

** Renewable stocks are taking an outsized beating among other stocks in the utility sector, which was down more than 10% last quarter. Investors may be betting that going green will take longer and require more capital in a higher-for-longer interest rate environment.

** The head of Exxon Mobil’s shale oil and gas business, a unit involved in merger talks with rival Pioneer Natural Resources, was arrested at a Texas hotel last week on a sexual assault charge, police said.

** While already in the record books for being the world’s largest, a wind turbine based off the coast of Fujian Province in China has achieved another incredible milestone. During Typhoon Haikui, the mammoth installation was able to generate 384.1 megawatt-hours of electricity in the span of a day, which would be enough to power around 170,000 homes, according to South China Morning Post.

** Testing and installation of The Viking Link Interconnector, the world’s longest onshore and subsea power cable, is complete. The project is a joint venture between the U.K.’s National Grid and Denmark’s Energinet and was designed and installed by Italy-based contractor Prysmian Group, according to Electrek.

** OPEC heavyweights said on Sunday oil and gas should not be stigmatised in the climate debate and that the industry had a role to play in an orderly energy transition.

** Line fill on the Trans Mountain oil pipeline expansion will start in the first quarter of 2024 and take about six to seven weeks to complete, the Canadian government-owned corporation building the project said on Friday.

** Despite mounting efforts to limit climate change, the OPEC oil cartel said Monday it expects demand for crude to continue to grow for the next two decades.

** France will have enough gas supplies for the winter even in the event of severe cold weather, operators GRTgaz and Terega said on Monday, in a further indication that Europe’s second-biggest economy has managed to diversify its sources from Russia.
