Oklahoma City gets high ranking in pro-growth policy study

Oklahoma City is considered among the top  ten cities in the nation with pro-growth policies, according to a new report.

The “Free Cities Index” of the nation’s most 50 populous cities was released by the Free Cities Center at the nonpartisan, free-market think tank, the Pacific Research Institute.

The five cities implementing the most pro-growth policies are Fort Worth, TX, Austin, TX, Colorado Springs, CO, Raleigh, NC, and Charlotte, NC. However, Oklahoma City was in the top list of growth cities. It was ranked 9th best while Tulsa ranked 27.

Other cities in the region and their ranking included Dallas, Texas at 23 ; Wichita, Kansas at 17; Omaha, Nebraska 19; Albuquerque, New Mexico 33.

“Cities that levy less burdensome taxes, impose a less costly regulatory environment, and efficiently provide core public services are attracting employers, investment, jobs, and tax revenue.” says PRI’s Wayne Winegarden, who prepared the list.
“Families desire cities that are affordable, foster economic opportunities, and offer residents a high quality of life. The Free Cities Index rankings show that the cities that are offering these attributes are growing in population,” he said.

“By the same token, cities that levy less burdensome taxes, impose a less costly regulatory environment, and efficiently provide core public services are attracting employers, investment, jobs, and tax revenue.”

The Free Cities Index rankings are predicated on a pro-growth policy criterion, judging the nation’s 50 most populous cities based on whether they levy less burdensome taxes on businesses and individuals, impose a less costly regulatory environment, and efficiently provide core public services.
