OGE prepares customers for another possible rate hike

It wasn’t an OG&E bill that arrived in the Monday morning mail this week, but a notice to customers that they will be facing another jump in their bills because of a rate hike sought by the utility.

In essence, get ready for another $2.21 per month to be added to an average residential customer billin the first year and $2.13 duringthe second year, stated the “Dear Customer” letter.

The additional cost is to pay for construction of two combustion turbine generators and a cost recovery mechanism to recover the costs related to construction when the units are in service.

Industrial users will be hit harder.

“For the industrial rate classes taking service at different service levels, the average increase would range from a $47.93 increase per month the first year and approximately 446.16 the second year,” stated the notice. Some Large Power and Light cutomers would pay $4,677.83 a month in the first year and $4.475.69 per month in the second year.

OG&E will go before an Administrative Law Judge at the Oklahoma Corporation Commisson on October 17. Public comment made in person will be received October 16 beginning at 10:30 a.m.
