Oklahoma’s U.S. Representatives in the House didn’t think much of the Democrats and their Consumer Fuel Price Gouging Prevention Act, one opposed by all 5 members who are Republicans.

Four Democrats were among those who opposed the measure while every Republican in the House voted against it.

The measure, officially known as H.R. 7688, the Consumer Fuel Price Gouging Prevention Act was approved on a vote of 217-207.

“Let’s be clear about what H.R. 7688 actually is, and that is an attempt by Democrats to deflect away from the failed energy policies of the Biden Administration that created the current energy crisis and record high gas prices,” said Rep. Tom Cole.

In a statement to explain his vote, Cole said rising gas prices rest solely on the shoulders of President Biden.

“The president is solely responsible for the damaging consequences of his anti-American energy policies, yet he’s trying to convince the American people that our oil and gas companies are to blame. Are we blaming American farmers and ranchers for the cost of food being up? Are we blaming the fishermen in Maine and Massachusetts for the price of lobster and other seafood being up? No.”

Cole went on to say Democrats also refuse to support any solutions that would bring prices down and ease the economic pain suffered by hardworking American families.  One of the solutions, he said would be to allow oil and gas drilling on federal lands while another would be the restarting of the Keystone XL pipeline.

“Instead, all we have is this pathetic fig leaf of a bill that does nothing the Federal Trade Commission cannot already do and that wrongfully villainizes our hardworking American energy producers.”
