There’s a reason Vladimir Putin is smiling.
Oklahoma U.S. Sen. James Lankford says that’s because President Biden made him and the Kremlin very happy by lifting sanctions on the Russian Nord Stream 2 pipeline.
Lankford called it “another huge mistake” by Biden after he first blocked the Keystone Pipeline from Canada to the U.S. but did very little to target the Russians.
“A weak approach on the Nord Stream 2 pipeline expansion into Germany only helps Russia, when they have already demonstrated they’re an unreliable and retaliatory energy partner in Europe, especially with our ally Ukraine,” said the Republican Senator in a statement to OK Energy Today.
Lankford said instead of lifting sanctions against the Russian corporation behind the controversial pipeline which will transport natural gas to Germany, the U.S. should continue the “tougher approach” waged by former President Trump and “impose the sanctions that Congress passed last December.
“Allowing the Russian pipeline to move forward unchecked will weaken Europe, weaken America’s energy future, and strengthen Putin and the Russian oligarchs,” said the Senator.
