The crack in the I-40 bridge over the Mississippi River that forced Arkansas authorities to close the structure this month actually started developing nearly five years ago.
New photographic evidence came to light this week as pictures taken by a kayaker in 2016 revealed the crack at that time. The Commercial Appeal newspaper said the kayaker, Barry Moore took the pictures with his iPhone and showed the start of the fracture.
