Arkansas nuclear power plant nears 50 years of use

50-Year Old Nuclear Units, Nowhere Near Retirement

 

While many in the U.S. are in a mad rush for the development of more renewable energy, a nuclear power plant in Arkansas  approaches nearly half a century of use.

Unit 1 of Arkansas Nuclear One near Lake Dardanelle turns 47 on Friday. Arkansas Business reported the unit came online May 21, 1974 just about four years after the two oldest power stations in the country were commissioned in 1969.
