Baker Hughes reports increase in nation’s rig count

 

While the analytical firm Enverus reported a drop in U.S. rig numbers in the past week, Baker Hughes Co. reports an increase of 5 nationally to 397. But many more rigs remain in storage.

Oklahoma’s count fell one to 17 compared to the 50 rigs active one year ago.

The national count included an addition of 7 oil rigs to a total of 306 while the number of gas rigs fell two to 90. The total numbers are 393 fewer than the 790 active rigs reported one year earlier. The number of oil rigs is down 372 while the total gas count is down 20.

Texas continues  being the most active state for oil and gas exploration with an increase of four in the past week to a total of 193. A year ago, Texas had 397 rigs.

The Red Top Rig Report published by the Independent Oil and Gas Service in Wichita, Kansas reported the Kansas count increased by one to 16.

Louisiana added one to reach 48. Colorado stayed at 8. New Mexico was unchanged at 61.

North Dakota increased its count by one to 13. Ohio stayed at 7. Pennsylvania continued with 18. West Virginia’s count of 12 was unchanged. Wyoming continued at 5 rigs.

The oil plays such as the Ardmore and Arkoma Woodfords in Oklahoma remained with no rig activity. The D-J Basin was unchanged at 7 while the Eagle Ford of South Texas increased by one to 29.

The Granite Wash in Oklahoma is still silent with no rig activity. The Haynesville count dropped by one to 46. The Marcellus stayed at 30 and the Mississippian play in Oklahoma and Kansas stayed at no activity.

The Permian Basin numbers increased by five to 203. The Utica  was unchanged at 7. The Williston saw an increase of one to 13.
