Rex Tillerson Being Recruited to Become University of Texas Chancellor

If some University of Texas supporters get their wishes, former Secretary of State Rex Tillerson will become the new chancellor of the University of Texas System.

Some system leaders have been talking to him following his dismissal as Secretary of State by President trump.

The Texas Tribune recently reported Tillerson is being actively courted as a candidate for the top job at the system which oversees 14 universities and medical institutions. The Wall Street Journal also reported “several members of a search committee are making a ‘hard push’ to draw Tillerson.”

However, reports indicate Tillerson has yet to be interviewed. The search committee includes five current or former regents who recently signed a contract with the executive recruiting firm, Russell Reynolds Associates.

“Nobody other than the members of the search advisory committee have confirmed knowledge of the names of candidates under consideration,” Randa Safady, a UT System spokesperson, said in a statement. “At this point, any names mentioned by others are speculative at best.”

Tillerson, a former energy executive is being recruited to replace Chancellor Bill McRaven, a retired Navy admiral who announced last year he intended to retire this spring because of health reasons.
