Where Oklahoma’s rig count drop occurred

The number of oil and gas rigs active in Oklahoma’s popular Cana Woodford oil play declined by three in the past week, according to the most recent Baker Hughes Rig Count.

An examination of the oil plays in the state showed the Cana Woodford rig total fell to 21 from the previous week. The Granite Wash, with the second most active rig play, gained 2 to reach a total of 16 rigs.

Elsewhere around the state, the Ardmore Woodford bounced back from a few weeks of no drilling activity and picked up a rig to reach one now underway in the play. The Arkoma Woodford total fell by one, leaving only one active rig in the play.

The Mississippian went another week with no reported drilling activity, according to Baker Hughes.

Elsewhere, the Permian Basin which covers parts of West Texas and Southeast New Mexico remained at 242 rigs. The Williston total fell one to 28 rigs while the Haynesville in Louisiana and East Texas continued with 56 active rigs.

The Marcellus remained at 25 rigs and the Eagle Ford count declined two to 43 rigs. The D-J Basin remained at 9 and the Utica stayed at a dozen rigs. The Barnett play continued with one rig.
