
Oil and gas rig activity held steady in the past week across the U.S. while Oklahoma saw a slight jump in the number of rigs across the state.
The Baker Hughes Rig Count showed the U.S. count increased by only one to a total of 544 rigs. The number of oil rigs declined 3 to 407 while there was a gain of 4 gas rigs to 129. Miscellaneous rigs held steady at 8 and there was a drop of one offshore rig to 11.
Oklahoma’s count increased one to reach a total of 43 in the Anadarko Basin which stretches across the state. While the 43 is still significant, it remains below last year’s count at this time of 55 rigs.
Texas leads all state with 234 rigs, which is two more than a week ago. New Mexico’s count dropped by two to 98. North Dakota remained at 26 rigs while Louisiana was unchanged at 42.
The Red Top Rig count by the Independent Oil and Gas Service, Inc. reported the Kansas rig total remained at 19. Ohio continued with 11 rigs and Pennsylvania saw no change with a total of 18 rigs. Other states remained the same, including Utah at 13, West Virginia at 8, Wyoming at 17, Alaska at 11 and California with 7 rigs.
Compared to a year ago when the national count was 587, the U.S. total this past week was 43 fewer. The decline included a loss of 68 oil rigs but a gain of 22 gas-drilling rigs, according to Baker Hughes. The nation’s miscellaneous rig count was unchanged at 10.
