Sweating your monthly electric bill? You’re not alone

We’ve reported time and time again how rising electric rates aren’t just faced by Oklahomans, but millions of Americans.

Just as Oklahoma consumers have complained about rate hike requests constantly being made by Oklahoma Gas and Electric, Public Service Company of Oklahoma and other utilities, so too are ratepayers of utilities in other states. Just last week, we reported how Evergy ratepayers in Kansas were fighting efforts of the utility to increase their monthly electric bills.

Take what’s happening in Michigan. While it seems the state is far from Oklahoma, ratepayers are struggling against increased DTE utility rates.

As The Midwesterner reported, “Across Michigan, ratepayers for Consumers and DTE are sweating repeated rate hikes, including pending requests for nine-figure increases that are among the largest ever.” The paper blamed some of the increase on attempts to “fulfill Gov. GretchenWhitmer’s climate goals, which call for net-zero carbon emissions by2050 and 100% cleanenergy by 2040.”
