Crude oil railway still might be in jeopardy in Colorado despite Supreme Court decision

Some officials in Colorado still hold hope that a US Supreme Court ruling last week didn’t stop their fight with the controversial Uinta Basin Railway that will carry crude oil from Utah through Colorado and in some cases, transport it to Oklahoma’s Cushing Hub.

The court  decision on the Uinta Basin Railway proposal in Utah published Thursday was a consequential ruling when it comes to the National Environmental Policy Act, or NEPA, narrowing the scope of the legislation and giving federal agencies more room to conduct their own analysis with more limited interference from courts reported the Colorado Sun.

But the decision did not give explicit approval to the 88-mile railroad fought by some counties in Colorado. Several western Colorado counties contend the railway exposes cities and towns to high risk with increased tanker traffic on riverside tracks.
