With an increased demand for natural gas in the U.S., Williams Cos. realizes there must also be increased storage capacity of natural gas.
That’s why the Tulsa company is in the process of expanding its storage capabilities in underground salt caverns. Williams CEO Alan Armstrong recently noted that storage is critical to keep up with the demand, not just here in the U.S but also abroad for abundant, safe and reliable natural gas.
In a Williams newsletter, it was reported that demand for natural gas in the U.S. grew by 47% since 2013 but necessary infrastructure and storage capacity is far behind. The ability to deliver natural gas has improved by 26% but storage delivery capacity only increased by just 2%.
Williams,, with at least six underground natural gas storage operations in Louisiana and Mississippi, is in the process of expanding its Pine Prairie site with a new salt cavern.
Once it’s completed, it will add another 10 billion cubic feet of working natural gas to be stored in the Williams sites.
