Corporation Commission to review approved OGE rate hike

Nearly four months after Oklahoma Corporation Commissioners gave approval for an interim order granting a nearly $127 million rate hike to Oklahoma Gas and Electric, they will revisit the issue during a Wednesday meeting.

Formally known as Case No. PUD2023-000087, the matter involves the November 2024 decision by commissioners approving the $126.66 million rate hike sought by the utility. It resulted in average monthly bills going up $12.65. OG&E originally had asked for a $332 million rate hike request but it was lowered by regulators.

The agenda for Wednesday’s meeting shows commissoiners may hold a status conference regarding the order approved last fall “to determine whether discovery, further hearing, and/or additional testimony is necessary to address the issues raised” in the order.

Still to be determined as part of the original order is the issue of the 1mw competitive load issue. It was not included in the November 2024 decision and involves about 30 customers in mostly rural areas of OGE’s service region.

The agenda stated that the meeting “may include possible discussion with counsel for the parties of record, deliberations by the Commissioners, discussion of next steps, and possible direction to the parties. Possible votes on the foregoing.”
