Oil and gas industry added jobs in February

After a loss of nearly 1,700 jobs in Oklahoma’s oil and gas industry over the past few months, a new jobs report from the Energy Workforce & Technology Council shows a gain of nearly 1,200 jobs for February 2025.
Oklahoma moved from 47,950 oil patch jobs in January to 48,684 for February, a gain of 1,184 jobs. The total is still below the 49,546 employed in the industry in December 2024.
The Workforce Council stated there was a gain of 4,170 positions nationwide, reachcing 639,743 during the month of February, according to preliminary data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) and analysis conducted by the Energy Workforce & Technology Council.
While overall job growth in the U.S. economy was slightly below expectations, it remained steady and consistent with long-term trends, demonstrating a balanced labor market. The national unemployment rate edged up to 4.1% from 4% in January.
“The energy services sector continues to be a driving force for economic progress,” said Energy Workforce President Molly Determan. “As we work to unleash American industry and prioritize domestic production, the industry is showing growth. We are optimistic about the future of employment across the industry. This momentum reflects our workforce’s important role in securing American energy security and economic prosperity.”
