More than 130 mayors and local leaders representing 39 states are begging Congress to protect clean energy tax credits that they believe created hundreds of thousands of new jobs and billions in investments. None were from Oklahoma.
The letter to Congressional leaders from the mayors, many who belong to a group called Climate Mayors, was signed by mayors from across the U.S. but it also did not include any local leaders from Oklahoma. Climate Mayors is a network of U.S. mayors demonstrating climate leadership through meaningful actions in their communities.
“As you develop the framework of tax legislation, we, the 133 undersigned local leaders, urge you to prioritize the economic and energy future of our communities by preserving all clean energy tax credits available to state and local governments through elective pay (direct pay),” they implored.
They were also critical of the Trump administration for pausing further use of the tax credits. The mayors claimed the funding from the Inflation Reduction Act “helped launch 750 clean energy projects credited with creating 400,000 new jobs and over $422 billion in investments.”
