Nearly 100 Oklahoma Gas & Electric company line crew members are entering their second week in restoration of electrical power in Georgia following the deadly arrival of Hurricane Helene.
As of Sunday, the death toll in the states devastated by the hurricane stood at 232 but some towns were destroyed and an estimated 2 million residents were still without electrical power, not to mention food and water.
Oklahoma Gas and Electric reported its crews were initially sent to help in Atlanta, Georgia but once power was restored in the city, they were assigned to towns of Waynesboro and Sardis and Wadley, a mostly rural area about 30 miles south of Augusta, Georgia.
OG&E’s 100 line workers and support personnel are part of the nearly 50,000 workers from at least 41 states, the District of Columbia, and Canada who continue to work around the clock to restore power safely and as quickly as possible.
Nearly 6 million customers in 10 states were impacted by Hurricane Helene, a Category 4 storm. As of 5 p.m. EDT Thursday, power has been restored to approximately 5.07 million—or 84.5 percent—of customers.
