Denver Federal Appeals Court at the center of an energy fight to protect national monuments

The Denver Federal Appeals Court will have a big decision to make and it focuses on whether to protect national monuments or allow oil and gas exploration.

At the heart of the issue is President Biden’s move during his years in office to set aside large pieces of public land as national monuments, protecting them from energy exploration and production. The U.S. Tenth Circuit Court of Appeals, the same federal appeals court that decides numerous Oklahoma legal cases, is being asked to consider the state of Utah’s move to reopen a court case.

Bloomberg Law reported the Utah petition before the US Supreme Court questions the legitimacy of federal ownership of public lands.
