Halt in Libya’s oil production sent crude oil prices up $1 a barrel

Crude oil prices finally rebounded on Thursday, rising by more than a dollar a barrel and at the same time, most Oklahoma energy stocks had a strong day in trading.

Supply disruptions in Libya and Iraq’s plan to lower output led to the increase in oil prices. Reuters reported more than half of Libya’s oil production, an estimated 700,000 barrels a day, was offline Thursday and exports were halted because of a standoff between rival political factions.

West Texas Intermediate crude gained $1.39 or 1.9% to settle at $75.91 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange.

Brent crude rose $1.29 or 1.6% and settled at $79.94 a barrel.

Most Oklahoma energy stocks had gains in Thursday’s daying including a 5% jump for Empire Petroleum and a 3% bump for Chesapeake Energy.

Other energy stocks also recorded gains, according to the Texas Energy Report.

Marathon Oil Corp. (MRO) up 0.62 at 28.88 – change 2.19%

NOV Inc. (NOV) up 0.13 at 17.94 – change 0.73%

Occidental Petroleum (OXY) up 0.42 at 57.20 – change 0.73%

Phillips 66 (PSX) up 1.56 at 136.54 – change 1.16%
