Weak performance but steady for crude oil prices while OK energy stocks suffered Thursday

The fact that crude oil prices on Thursday managed only weak gains might have prompted the big losses suffered by most Oklahoma energy stocks as some firms saw declines of 11%.

Analysts described the national and international oil trading as “steadied” as investors and buyers couldn’t come to solid grips with signals about crude oil demand and whether the U.S. might soon see a cut in interest rates.

West Texas Intermediate crude slipped 3 cents and closed at $82.82 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange.

Brent crude finished up 3 centers at $85.11 a barrel on ICE Futures Europe.

August natural gas rose 3 cents to $2.19 per 1,000 cubic feet.

Thursday proved to be a weak performance day for Oklahoma energy stocks as most suffered losses including an 11% drop for Canoo and a 5% decline for Helmerich & Payne.

Other energy stocks showed gains for the day, according to the Texas Energy Report.
