List of interim studies announced by Senate leader

At least 7 of the 39 interim study requests approved recently by Oklahoma Senate Pro Tem Greg Treat involve energy related matters.

One of the issues is a proposed exploration of “unbundling of electric generation from transmission.” It raised the question, “Does it make sense for Oklahoma?”

Tulsa State Sen. Dana Prieto requested the study. It will be handled in the Senate Energy and Telecommunications Committee. No reports are yet available regarding the proposed interim study.

Sen. Treat announced the list to be discussed during the legislative interim. In total, 39 interim study requests were approved and have been assigned to a committee. It is at the discretion of each individual committee chair as to whether a study will be scheduled.

All interim studies must be concluded by November 1.

“Interim studies are a great way for lawmakers to dig into topics that are important to Oklahomans as they craft legislation for next year,” Pro Tem Treat said.

“These studies provide legislators with the opportunity to thoroughly investigate complex issues, gather relevant data, and engage with experts and stakeholders outside of the of the regular legislative session. This approach allows for informed decision-making, leading to the development of policies that have an impact on our state. Interim studies foster transparency and public participation, as they often include public hearings and solicit input from people outside of the Capitol, ensuring that various perspectives are considered.”

After committee chairs finalize interim study requests, hearing dates and times will be set and can be found on the Senate website. Meeting notices will be sent by Senate committees once scheduled. Hearings will also be livestreamed on the Senate website.
