The water dispute between New Mexico isn’t settled, according to the U.S. Supreme Court. The federal government wants a final say.
It was a 5-4 decision issued Friday by the U.S. Supreme Court that rejected a settlement between the two states over water from the Rio Grande river, one of the longest rivers in North America.
The decision means the water-share deal originally agreed to between Texas and New Mexico cannot move ahead. Here’s why. The Federal government still has some concerns about New Mexico water use on the river because Colorado also draws from it.
