An unexpected jump in U.S. crude stockpiles sent oil prices tumbling by a dollar a barrel on Wednesday. Oklahoma energy stocks fell as well.
US benchmark, West Texas Intermediate crude futures dropped 87 cents or 1.2% to $71.37 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange.
Brent crude, the global benchmark, fell 79 cents or 1% to $76.80 a barrel on ICE Futures Europe.
Earlier in the day, crude prices had gained more than 1% but reversed after the U.S. Energy Information Administration reported the surprise build in crude oil stockpiles.
February natural gas fell 15 cents to $3.04 per 1,000 cubic feet.
Oklahoma energy stocks fell another day in trading.
