Wind and solar farms banned in Harvey County, Kansas

No renewable energy projects such as wind and solar farms will be allowed in one south central Kansas County.

Harvey County Commissioners voted unanimously this week in support of regulations banning commercial wind and utility-scale solar renewable energy projects.  Newton,Kansas, known for one of the Amtrak rail passenger stops in Kansas and the discussion of possible extension of service to Oklahoma City, is the county seat.

The Salina Post reported commissioners took the action following a recommendation from the Harvey County Planning and Zoning Advisory Board. The regulations will take effect once legal notification has been published in the County’s newspaper of record.
