A day after a 1% fall, crude oil prices rose nearly 2% because of continued supply tightness following OPEC+ production cuts. Oklahoma energy stocks went the opposition direction as most recorded losses for the day.
West Texas Intermediate crude finished up $1.31 or 1.7% to $80.09 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange.
Brent crude topped $84 a barrel for the first time since April and rose $1.32 or 1.6% to finish at $84.35 on ICE Futures Europe.
Crude has posted four consecutive weekly gains on an expected tightening of supply because of output cuts by the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) and its allies, known collectively as OPEC+, as well as some involuntary outages, according to Reuters.
August natural gas fell 18 cents to $2.49 per 1,000 cubic feet.
Most Oklahoma energy stocks recorded losses in Thursday’s trading include 2% tumbles for ONEGas and ONEOK. Helmerich & Payne was a lone exception to the losses as it recorded a nearly 5% gain for the day.
