Environmentalists challenge Oklahoma lawsuit over lesser prairie chicken listing

In response to a lawsuit filed a few months ago by Oklahoma, Texas and Kansas against the government’s listing of the lesser prairie chicken as endangered, conservationists recently responded in defense of the government’s move.

The Center of Biological Diversity and the Texas Campaign for the Environment filed a motion to intervene in defense of the listing. The filing was made in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Texas Midland-Odessa Division where the lawsuit was filed in April. The environmentalists contend the federal protections were needed to save a bird that conservationists called “iconic” to the prairies of the U.S. reported the Carlsbad Current-Argus.
