A dollar-a-barrel decline in crude oil prices Monday also took Oklahoma energy stocks down for the ride as some local stocks fell 5% and 6%.
Crude oil’s drop came after news of weak economic data from China along with still lingering concerns of another U.S. interest rate hike.
West Texas Intermediate crude dropped $1.12 or 1.5% to settle at $75.66 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange.
Brent crude, considered the global benchmark for oil, fell $1.02 or 1.3% before closing at $78.45 on ICE Futures Europe.
Natural gas dropped 8 cents or nearly 4% before closing at $2.32 per thousand cubic feet.
Monday resulted in a weak response by Oklahoma energy stocks as Gulfport Energy Corp. fell 7% and Empire Petroleum slid more than 5%.
