Texas legislature approves bill to create higher registration fees for electric vehicles

States Boost Fees on Hybrid, EV Owners

 

Under a bill approved by the legislature and sent to Texas Gov. Greg Abbott is a proposed law creating higher annual registration fees for electric vehicles.

The bill would impose an annual $200 feet for the registration or renewal of an EV and another $400 to register a new electric vehicle according to Fox 7 TV news in Austin, Texas.

The added fee is designed to make up for the loss of gasoline taxes which are used for highway maintenance.
