Geothermal energy the focus of Energy Secretary’s visit to OU

When Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm came to Oklahoma last week, it wasn’t just to deliver a $7 million research grant to Oklahoma State University but to also talk with tribal leaders and the University of Oklahoma about converting their hydraulic fracking wells to thermal wells.

Geothermal energy has been the focus of scientific research at OU and last year scientists began a study of heating schools in Tuttle with geothermal heat. Granholm, accompanied by second gentleman Doug Emhoff, were interested in the development of harnessing geothermal energy for the benefit of tribal communities reported the Stillwater News Press.
