Amtrak to study new route from East Coast to Dallas-Fort Worth

FreightWaves Classics: I-20 connects Texas to the East Coast - FreightWaves

Amtrak, the company that brought us the Heartland Flyer in Oklahoma City, now wants to investigate the prospects of a rail line from the east coast along I-20 and into Dallas, Texas, one that if developed could mean more opportunities for travel by Heartland Flyer riders.

The rail way firm announced it is partnering with the Southern Rail Commission to apply for federal funds to study a new service between New York City, Atlanta and Dallas and Fort Worth by extending a section of the Amtrak Crescent train from Meridian, Mississippi across Mississippi and Louisiana to Texas, according to the News Star.

If it were to become a reality, it would mean passengers on the Heartland Flyer out of Oklahoma City could travel to Fort Worth and catch a train eastward along I-20 to the East Coast.
