The growth of U.S. oil inventories along with continued worries by investors of Federal Reserve rate hikes sent crude oil prices down on Thursday. Some Oklahoma energy stocks lost nearly 11% in the day’s trading.
West Texas Intermediate crude dropped 41 cents or 0.5% to close at $78.06 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange.
Global benchmark Brent crude fell 59 cents or 0.7% and finished the day at $84.50 a barrel on ICE Futures Europe.
The dip in prices for both came after they each gained more than 5% for the week.
March natural gas rose 3 cents to $2.43 per 1,000 cubic feet.
Most Oklahoma energy companies experienced losses in Thursday’s trading. Mammoth Energy and Matrix Services lost nearly 11% and Helmerich & Payne dropped more than 7%.
