Powder River coal supply problems lead to criticism of Union Pacific railway

 

Coal shipments out of Wyoming’s Powder River Basin have fallen in recent months leading to growing criticism of Union Pacific Railway, one of two railroad companies that haul the coal to customers.

A report by WyoFile indicated UP had failed to meet customer coal demand. The National Coal Transportation Association blamed “continuing poor railroad service” as coal mining operations attempted to build up coal supplies while natural gas prices rose.
