Oil and Oklahoma energy stocks suffered tumbles in prices on Thursday as the winter storm resulted in tighter U.S. crude stocks and fears grew of increased Federal Reserve interest rates.
West Texas Intermediate for February delivery dropped 80 cents or 1% a barrel to $77.49 on the New York Mercantile Exchange.
Global benchmark Brent crude for February delivery fell $1.22 or 1.5% to settle at $80.98 a barrel on ICE Futures Europe.
January natural gas fell 33 cents to $5 per 1,000 cubic feet.
Thursday produced mostly losses for Oklahoma energy stocks. Ovintiv and Chesapeake Energy dropped 5% while SandRidge and Gulfport Energy fell 4%.
Most other energy stocks suffered the same kind of losses according to the Texas Energy Report.
