With the growing threat of a Russian invasion of Ukraine, crude oil prices on Monday increased more than 2% hitting a 7-year high.
West Texas Intermediate crude jumped $2.36 or 2.5% and finished the day at $95.46 a barrel. It had climbed as high as $95.82 earlier in the day, the highest mark in the U.S. since September 2014.
Global benchmark Brent crude went up $2.04 or 2.2% and settled at $96.48 a barrel.
The world is nervous whether Russian leader Putin will give the go-ahead for his 130,000 soldiers gathered at the Ukranian border to invade the country. Reports continue to focus on an invasion date of Wednesday, something Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskiy repeated on Monday.
As for Oklahoma energy stocks, many recorded losses for the day including 3% setbacks by Devon Energy, Continental Resources and Unit Corporation. On the positive side, NGL Energy gained more than 3%.
